Brothers Barathkumar and Aroon eye more glory back in PJ City

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

PETALING JAYA: The Ramaloo brothers are inseparable and they have joined forces again to chart Petaling Jaya City’s success in the Super League.

Midfielder R. Barathkumar, 29, and centreback R. Aroon Kumar, 27, helped Negri Sembilan win the Premier League last year and have now rejoined their former club on a two-year contract.

They made the decision after looking at how the all-local team performed last year under P. Maniam and believe the Phoenix will help elevate them into becoming better footballers.

Barathkumar said it was good to be back after his last stint in 2020 and revealed that he had been following their exploits which saw them finish seventh in the 12-team standings.

“I always watch match highlights of their games on YouTube. I’ve to say, their game play is now very good. They don’t fear the big teams and always show great heart in every game.

“I returned because I wanted a new challenge after winning the Premier League for my home state and I felt PJ City was the right choice,” he said.

“I believe I can learn more under Maniam and help him achieve the top-five target.

“It’s also nice to have my brother in the team too. We will work hard to make our stint a success.

“As for competition in midfield, I am ready for it. Even with Negri, I didn’t get to play in the first-five games, but I fought every day in training to make sure I get into the first 11,” added Barathkumar, who played in 21 games in all competitions and scored five goals last year.

Aroon, who is soft-spoken but imposing in defence, said he could not wait for the season to start.

“I know we all must fight for places as the club only want the best on the field. And I’m all for that.

“We will push each other and will not let the coach down. Whoever is picked, we all have one thing in common... to bring success to PJ City.”
