PJ City FC strengthens squad with two new signings

PETALING JAYA, 20th Feb 2019: Super League debutants, PJ City FC has recruited two new players, local striker Safee Sali and Brazilian midfielder, Sergio Paulo Nascimento Filho to strengthen their squad for the challenging tasks ahead.


Both Safee, 35 and Sergio, 31 have played prominent roles in their previous appearances with their respective teams. The Malaysian ace who was registered to play for Perlis this season, left the northern state team to play for PJ City in his ambition to don national colours again.


“Safee’s experience will be of great motivation to the younger players in the team and he will be able to guide the highly talented youngsters to greater heights,” noted Coach K. Devan.


Both players signed their new contract with PJ City FC, witnessed by Devan and Club Deputy President Chandragesan Suppiah and General Secretary, Ganesh Shanmugam.


Commenting on Sergio, Devan said, “he is a fantastic playmaker and we are delighted that he has joined us. Sergio will add power, creativity and quality to our squad and we are looking forward to the combination of Safee and Sergio in our starting line-up soon."


The team already has two other Brazilian players, namely striker, Pedro Henrique, and defender Giancarlo Rodrigues. Two other foreign players in the team are South Korean midfielder, Bae Beom Geun and Filipino defender, Joshua Jake Grommen.


PJ City FC are currently fifth in the Super League standings, after a win (3-2 with PKNP), draw (1-1 against Selangor and losing the opening match against Melaka (2-1). Devan said he is confident that the new players will help propel them up in the table in their bid to finish in the top half of the Super League.


“Both Safee and Sergio are highly skilled and versatile, and can play their role effectively as I have seen them carefully and they certainly fit my requirements and vision for the team very well,” added Devan.


PJ City FC will next take on table-toppers Kedah at the MBPJ stadium in Kelana Jaya on Friday.
